How to be an Affiliate Marketer?
What is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a way of earning passive online income simply by referring customers to vendors. Through affiliate marketing, you will promote websites or products in exchange for commission or a percentage of profits generated when you drive traffic to a particular website and/or when those people you drive to search websites actually purchase from them. When you get into affiliate marketing, you don’t need to worry about coming out with your own products because essentially, all you will be doing is referred or drive people to a vendor’s website, the credit for which goes to you.
Think of it this way – it’s like hanging out in the Sahara desert with your posses and when a stranger asks you where he can get agua, you point him to the nearest – pardon the pun – sand bar, which is about 5 miles south. You give him a unique voucher that entitles him to a 50% discount from the regular price and through that voucher, the sand bar’s manager knows that you’re the one who referred that thirsty stranger to his bar. And as an official sand bar affiliate, you get a cut from the thirsty stranger’s purchase from the bar.
How cool’s that, huh?
After you’ve done much of the hard and dirty work in the beginning as part of setting up, you can pretty much go back to living your usual life as your affiliate marketing program – if set up correctly – will generate income for you 24/7 without need for much supervision or work. Literally, your business (affiliate marketing) will be working for you, and not the other way around, as is the case with traditional businesses. So whether you’re out for a run, working out in the gym, watching your favorite reruns of The Golden Girls, taking a bath, or resting in peace 6 feet under the ground, your affiliate marketing business continues to generate money for you.
Further, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to put up an affiliate marketing business – all you need’s a computer, Internet connection, creativity, and diligence and commitment to succeed. Yes, there are some start up costs – your Internet connection costs money too, you know – but if you’re wise and disciplined, you can minimize your start up costs and start making serious money sooner than you think.
How to be an Affiliate Marketer?
You’ll begin by looking for a great product to sell or promote online, whose sellers or providers are looking for help from people like you to sell their products on the Internet. The best places to look for such products and providers are the major affiliate networks such as JVZoo.com and ClickBank.com. Just sign up for an affiliate account, which means you’ll be signing up to promote the products and services of those websites’ vendors.
After you’ve registered for an affiliate account, it’s time to look for a product to promote online. Using the sites mentioned above, you can easily find high paying affiliate programs but searching based on a products “gravity”. For example, let’s say you wanted to promote a product in the fitness category, and for the sake of this example, you already signed up as an affiliate for Clickbank, then you would just need to follow these steps to find a high paying affiliate program:
- When you first login, you’ll be on your dashboard. In the upper-right corner you’ll see a menu option called “Marketplace”. Go ahead and click on the link.
- In this example, since we are searching for a product in the fitness category, we will click on the left sidebar the “Health & Fitness” tab, and then select a sub-niche. In this example, we will select “Diets & Weight Loss”
- Now notice in the top-right corner, there’s a section called “Sort results by:”. Here we want to select “Gravity”, and then we want to make sure that the “High to Low” radio button is selected.
- Now at this point, you should see several results, all filtered from high to low based on their gravity. My typical rule of thumb is to select products with a gravity of at least 20 and higher. Gravity measures the number of affiliates that have made a commission promoting that particular product. So the higher the better!
- Now that you have found a product worth promoting, it’s time to grab your affiliate link (by clicking on the promote button), and start sending it out to potential buyers. Which of course is easier said than done.
So how will the advertisers or product sellers know which of the people who visited their website and bought their products or services were referred by you or by someone else? It’s simple – they will provide you with a unique affiliate link that will be embedded on the emails and links you send out via email. When people click on those links to check out the products, it signals to the seller’s system that you referred this person. Through your unique affiliate link, vendors can accurately track the people that you referred and who bought their products or services.
While it can give you the opportunity to make serious money faster than traditional businesses, it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme. More often than not, you’ll need to keep at it for some time before you reap serious monetary benefits. In my honest opinion, if you are concerned with diving into affiliate marketing I’d highly recommend joining an affiliate marketing program like the ones mentioned in my Top 5 Affiliate Marketing Programs review.
